Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does a physiotherapist do?
A physiotherapist is a movement system specialist who helps improve, regain or prevent the loss of movements and functional abilities, which have been impaired by acute injuries, trauma, disease process, repetitive stress injuries or muscle imbalances. Top
  • Is physiotherapy covered by OHIP?
Unfortunately no as is the case at most clinics. In order to bill OHIP a billing number is required; moreover, new billing numbers have ceased to be given to Physiotherapists since the 1970’s, and more recently OHIP has stopped coverage of physiotherapy services for anyone between the ages of 19-65. • Do I need a doctor’s referral to see a physiotherapist?
No. We are considered primary healthcare providers, HOWEVER, if you have extended health coverage, you will need to check if your insurance company requires one in order to reimburse you as this requirement differs among insurance companies. Top
  • Are WSIB clients accepted?
Yes. Due to WSIB only paying $24 per visit versus the normal fees are $90 Assessment / $60 Treatment, clients will only be accepted if they sign an agreement of compliance which will state that should a client not be compliant with the physiotherapy treatment, including their home exercise program and other self management strategies or if a client no-show or cancels without 24 hours notice, the physiotherapist reserves the right to discharge the client and notify WSIB.

24 hours notice is required to cancel / reschedule appointments otherwise a late cancellation fee equivalent to the REGULAR PHYSIOTHERAPY RATES mentioned above will be charged. Top
  • What do I need to wear for an appointment?
For upper extremity issues, a tank top would be preferred; those with lower extremity or low back issues are advised to have shorts or loose fitting pants that can be rolled up past the knees. Top
  • What is the acupuncture fee?
Acupuncture will only be done as a part of the physiotherapy treatment therefore there is no additional fee for acupuncture beyond the physiotherapy rates. Top
  • Is there direct billing?
This depends on the insurance company. For the most part, insurance companies require the patient to pay for the treatments first then submit the invoice(s) for reimbursement. However, there are a few insurance companies who will permit direct billing, but you will need to confirm. Top
  • What are the payment options?
Cash, credit and debit card payments. Top
  • What happens if I have to cancel or if I NO-SHOW for an appointment?
As a courtesy to other clients and your physiotherapist, 24 hours notice is required to cancel an appointment. No shows or late cancellations will incur the FULL CHARGE OF THE APPOINTMENT RATE. Please note that this charge will NOT be covered by your insurance company. Thank you for your understanding. Top
